Cemetery Tours

Guided tours of Mountain View Cemetery, Highway 23 North are available on select dates during the spring and summer months. Private tours may also be requested by groups of four or more people. Contact the museum if you wish to arrange a private tour. Be prepared for the weather, and for mosquitoes. Children are welcome to attend with caregivers, but there is some mature content including violent death, murder, racism, and prostitution.

The tour includes the history of the cemetery and an explanation of the layout and information on how to find individual plots. Gravesites and stories on the tour include the oldest remaining headstone from 1891, mafia murder victim Frank Julian, stories about immigration and name changes, a large granite marker for Douglas Hector, son of explorer James Hector, and much more.

Mountain View Cemetery is the final resting place for many of Revelstoke’s pioneers and these plots hold much of the history of the development of this city and region. Stories of triumph, tragedy and even murder provide a fascinating insight into the lives of some of the extraordinary people buried here.
