130 years ago: The Kootenay Mail, October 6, 1894
A pleasant farewell dance and dinner was held for Mr. Alex. Cummings, store-keeper of the C.P.R hardware department at Donald. He was being transferred to the Revelstoke department, and his numerous friends in Donald decided to throw him a dance and supper in his honour. It was a great success, with thirty couples in attendance and it was reported that they all sang and danced until the early hours of the morning.
120 years ago: Revelstoke Herald, October 6, 1904
The Honourable Richard McBride, Premier of British Columbia, paid a visit to Revelstoke, and a banquet was thrown in his honour. A delicious dinner was served and many speeches were made. About 50 local community members were in attendance as well, and the evening was declared to be a fantastic success.
110 years ago: Revelstoke Mail-Herald, October 3, 1914
A lovely display of Revelstoke agricultural products was sent for exhibition at the Calgary fair. Samples of vegetables and fruits grown on Revelstoke farms were up for display, as well as a great selection of canned goods. After the Calgary fair, the goodies were to be sent to Edmonton for exhibition. Revelstoke locals were very proud to show off their hard work!
100 years ago: Revelstoke Review, October 1, 1924
It was announced that funding for the Revelstoke Post Office Building had been approved. The Honourable Dr. King, Federal Minister of Public Works was the one who made the announcement, to a crowd of very excited community members. Plans and sketches were underway, and news was flying fast! The original post office building would eventually become the Revelstoke Museum and Archives.
90 years ago: The Revelstoke Review, October 6, 1934
Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke held its annual produce shower. The hospital asked for donations of vegetables, jams, pickles, fruits, and cash, in order to raise money for the running of the medical center. Sponsorship for the shower was provided by the Ladies’ Hospital Guild, and the Hospital was very appreciative of another great sale.
80 years ago: The Revelstoke Review, October 5, 1944
The local Salvation Army Red Shield Drive was a great success. In total, the city of Revelstoke donated $484.00 to the organization, beating the last year’s total by approximately thirty dollars. The Salvation Army thanked the community of Revelstoke for its generous donations, as well as to the community members who canvassed the city.
70 years ago: Revelstoke Review, October 7, 1954
The Revelstoke and District Credit Union celebrated its first anniversary with a social evening. About 60 friends and members of the Credit Union gathered at the Civic Centre to mark the occasion. The evening started out with a report on the year’s activities and finished with refreshments and friendly conversation.
60 years ago: Revelstoke Review, October 1, 1964
Local Revelstoke Ford and Mercury dealer James (Red) McCallum was the top dealer of the western division of sales performance during the 1964 sales year. This paid off very well for Mr. McCallum and his wife Doris, as it earned him an all-expense paid eight-day Caribbean Cruise. The couple was set to fly to Miami via Montreal, where they were to board the Italian luxury liner Franca C, and it was later reported that a fabulous time was had by all!
50 years ago: Revelstoke Review, October 3, 1974
The Revelstoke Figure Skating Club welcomed a new professional skater this week. Miss Flora Vogel of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, came very highly recommended. Prior to her Revelstoke move, Miss Vogel had three years of professional experience behind her, skating with Cal Alta in Calgary and later with Bat Burley’s “Iceland” in Australia. Miss Vogel was set to join the 151 local skaters at the club, and it was reported that they all presented her with a very warm welcome.
40 years ago: Revelstoke Review, October 3, 1984
Local businessman Mike Kukura was offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He was hired to paint Michael Jackson’s 1978 Ferrari, after being discovered by a producer of a car show in Alberta. At the time, Jackson’s Ferrari was painted black, but it was set to be “Wild Cherry” once the paint job was complete. Talk about a thrilling experience!
30 years ago: Revelstoke Times Review, October 7, 1994
Auditions were held for a local production of The Sound of Music. The auditions were held at Revelstoke Secondary School, with sixty-two people in totally giving it their all. The youngsters had to sing a song of their choice, with “Oh Canada” and “Happy Birthday” being the two most popular tunes.

The volunteers at the St. Francis of Assisi Church delivered delicious autumnal scents to the community of Revelstoke this week. Sixty volunteers baked 800 apple pies, continuing a 15 year tradition at the church. Funds raised by the apple pie bake sale would go towards church activities.
