LIFT-OFF has happened! Revelstoke Museum and Archives has an Accessibility Lift!
The lift at the back of the museum allows all of our visitors to get into all floors of the museum without having to navigate any stairs.
After years of planning, a vertical platform lift at Revelstoke Museum and Archives is finally a reality!
The 1926 heritage Post Office building has been home to the museum since 1974, but it was not built with accessibility in mind. The building has stairs to enter the main floor, and even more stairs to the second floor. This was an insurmountable barrier for many people, and has stopped people from accessing the museum exhibits and programs, such as Brown Bag History.
We acknowledge the support and cooperation of the City of Revelstoke, who owns and maintains the building. We could not have achieved success for this project without their contribution.
Thank you to all of our granting agencies and donors. Please scroll to see the full list.
To use the lift, enter the alley behind the museum from Boyle Avenue. Handicapped parking is available there. Press button P, and when the lift reaches the floor, the door will open. Enter the lift, and when the door closes, press and hold the button to Floor 1. Please proceed to the front to check-in and pay if you are doing a tour or a program, or browse the gift shop. To go to the second floor, press 1, and the door will open, or if it is on another floor, hold the button until it reaches the floor. Enter, and when the door closes, press and hold the button to Floor 2. The accessible washroom is also on the second floor.
