David Thompson exhibit is
now open, celebrating 200 years of his journey on the Columbia RiverHISTORY MATTERS
Revelstoke Museum and Archives was pleased to hear recently that a podcast
series featuring one of its exhibits on the Virtual Museum of Canada was the
winner of a prestigious award.
The Virtual Museum of Canada and Sound Venture Productions won the Gold
Award for Best Podcast in the Education Category in competition with radio
stations, networks and independent producers from over 30 countries who
submit their best radio programming each year to the festival.
HISTORY MATTERS is a series of five stories in French
and English, selected from community memories exhibits housed on
virtualmuseum.ca that refer back to the richness of these exhibits, and of
their historical relevancy for Canadians. By creating these clips, the hope
is to make casual listeners more aware of Canadian history in all of its
unique diversity.
The first HISTORY MATTERS podcast produced was “The Last Spike” based on
stories and photographs from “Getting Here From There” an online exhibit
produced by Revelstoke Museum and Archives for the Community Memories
program of the Virtual Museum of Canada. Community Memories provides a
forum for museums to share their community stories with the world through
online exhibits. “Getting Here From There – Transportation in the
Revelstoke District” explores the difficulties of setting up transportation
routes through this mountainous region. Through photographs and stories,
the exhibit looks at First Nations land use, the explorations of David
Thompson and other explorers, the coming of the railway, steamboat service
on the waterways and the creation of highways.
